President Kagame Targets Exploitative Churches with New Tax Policy

In a bold move to address the issue of exploitative religious institutions, President Paul Kagame has introduced new taxes on the rapidly growing number of churches in Rwanda. This decision comes in response to concerns that many of these churches have been exploiting citizens under the guise of religious practices. The Rwandan government has taken significant steps to regulate the proliferation of churches, which has seen a surge in recent years. Speaker Among Halts Motion to Censure Parliamentary Commissioners After Court Ruling

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has decisively halted a motion initiated by MP Theodore Ssekikubo aimed at censuring four Parliamentary Commissioners, including the Leader of the Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga. In a session marked by firm leadership, Speaker Among emphasized the necessity for Parliament to respect the court's decision, cautioning against revisiting matters […]

"We expect our leaders to set an example, not to be involved in such shameful acts," said John Tumusiime, a resident of Rubirizi. "How can she represent us in Parliament if she can't even handle her own family matters with dignity?" Kesande, who secured her second term in the 2021 elections with 28,667 votes, defeating her rival Judith Amanya who garnered 19,474 votes, is now under scrutiny not just for her political record, but for her actions in this personal dispute.
