Bunyaruguru Development SACCO has once again demonstrated its commitment to community welfare by donating over 1,000 sanitary pads to schoolgirls in Rubirizi District. The donation, spearheaded by the SACCO’s General Manager, Madam Gumisiriza Manuelina, was made to St. Kizito Magambo Seed School, Katunguru Seed School, and Ryeru Seed School. This initiative aims to promote girls’ education while fostering financial literacy among students.
According to Madam Manuelina, the provision of sanitary pads will help ensure that girls stay in school, particularly during their menstrual periods, a time when many often drop out due to the lack of these essential hygiene products. “Our goal is to support girls in their education and teach them about the importance of savings. By embracing a saving culture, students can secure a brighter future financially,” she said. She urged the community to cooperate with the SACCO to encourage further development.
The health benefits of sanitary pads were also highlighted by Kyarimpa Jennifer, a health educator in Rubirizi District. She explained that sanitary pads not only boost girls’ confidence during menstruation but also protect them from infections that can result from using unhygienic alternatives. By providing these pads, the SACCO is directly helping girls focus on their education without fear of missing classes due to menstruation.
Nakyanzi Mercy, the head girl at St. Kizito Magambo Seed School, expressed her heartfelt thanks to Bunyaruguru Development SACCO for the much-needed donation. “This initiative is going to make a big difference in our lives, especially for those who can’t afford sanitary pads. It will help us maintain our hygiene and improve our academic performance because we won’t have to miss school anymore,” she shared. Mercy praised the SACCO for its dedication to the community, noting that the donation reflected the SACCO’s capability to address important social issues.
This recent donation is part of the SACCO’s broader social responsibility efforts. In recent months, Bunyaruguru Development SACCO has also donated beds and mattresses to Rugazi Health Center IV and provided plastic chairs and waiting tents to health centers in Ntara, Kyitagwenda, and Katerera in Rubirizi District.
Madam Manuelina emphasized that giving back to the community is a core value of Bunyaruguru Development SACCO, which strives not only to address financial needs but also to improve the health and education of its members. By taking these steps, the SACCO is making a lasting impact, showing that its focus on education, health, and financial literacy can empower the next generation and inspire further development in the region.
