Rubirizi District FC has secured a spot in the finals of the Ankole Districts Tournament with a decisive 2:1 victory over Ntungamo District FC in the return leg of the semi-finals. The match, held at Nyakasharu playground, saw Rubirizi dominate the first half, with early goals that set them on the path to victory.
The game started with a bang as Walusimbi Solomon found the back of the net in the 2nd minute, giving Rubirizi an immediate advantage. The team’s relentless pressure paid off again in the 36th minute when Mucongotia Robert doubled their lead, putting Rubirizi firmly in control of the match. Ntungamo managed to pull one back in the 64th minute, but Rubirizi’s defense held strong, ensuring their place in the finals.
Nalongo Jeniva, the team’s sponsor and an aspiring candidate for Rubirizi Woman MP in the 2026 elections, expressed her joy and pride in the team’s performance.
“The boys have made us all proud. Scoring so early in the game showed their determination and spirit, and I couldn’t be happier with how they played. This victory is not just for the team but for all of Rubirizi,” she said.
Jeniva also extended her heartfelt thanks to the supporters who turned out in large numbers to cheer the team on.
“The energy and support from the fans were incredible, and it truly made a difference. We owe this win to each and every one of you who stood by us, and I promise that we will continue to push forward with the same passion in the finals,” she added.
As Rubirizi District FC prepares for the final match, the team and its supporters are filled with anticipation, ready to bring home the championship and celebrate a momentous victory for the district.
