Yesterday, Rubirizi District FC secured a 1:1 draw against Ntungamo FC in a tense semi-final match at Kyamate playground during the Ankole Districts Tournament. The match, which drew significant attention, showcased the discipline and coordination of Rubirizi District FC both on and off the pitch.
“The team exhibited high levels of discipline and coordination, which I attribute to their performance today,” said Sunday Ahmed, the team’s coach. His sentiments were echoed by the District Football Coordinator, Innocent Byamukama, who expressed optimism about the team’s prospects. “After this draw, it is now very clear that if we focus, we are directly headed to the finals,” Byamukama told Rubirizi Online.
The game was attended by a large group of supporters from Rubirizi, including notable figures such as Hon. John Twesigye Ntamuhiira, the MP for Bunyaruguru Constituency, and the District Chairperson, Silverster Agubanshogorera, among other dignitaries. Their presence provided a morale boost for the team and demonstrated the community’s strong support.
Looking ahead, the second leg of the semi-final will take place on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Nyakasharu playground in Rubirizi. Nalongo Janiva, the team’s sponsor, who was unable to attend the first match, sent her apologies and reaffirmed her commitment to the team’s success. “The team is ready not to retreat or surrender,” she emphasized. Janiva, who is also an aspiring candidate for Rubirizi Woman MP in the 2026 elections, highlighted that supporting and boosting local talent is a key objective in her manifesto.
As the team prepares for the decisive second leg, the entire Rubirizi community is rallying behind them, hopeful that this momentum will carry them through to the finals.
